Early Vintage USA Compensated Ship's Wheel Brass Barometer

I got this at an estate auction. I thought it was very interesting but the only thing the sellers could tell me was that it was USA Compensated Barometer. The face is red and the brass is darkened. It is a little hard to see the print on the face. There is a place in the back that looks kind of like maybe there had been something like a clock key that went in it. There is one spoke from the wheel that is missing. Even if you do not purchase, if you have any information on this piece I would appreciate the info. superb for everyday use. top-grade materials and excellent craftsmanship ensure long-lasting durability.
